| about this blog
Many of these long-lived wonders have been restored to their original appearance with textbook accuracy. You can stop at just about any point along this winding road and find a house with historic past worthy of conversation. Unless, of course, you stop in front of my house. Now, if you're working on some kind of obscure doctoral thesis on classic 1960s Cape design, you might find a wealth of worthwhile information within my four walls. The use of knotty pine in just about any vertical application, say, or the evolution of speckles in vinyl tile flooring - 1965 through 1967. Otherwise, the 1,300-sq.-ft. structure that I call home is just another shingled Cape. It would fit comfortably in many aging suburban developments throughout the Northeast, but, instead, it's been plopped down in the middle of the country's longest continuous registered historic district.
Going up? Postage stamps are
But the Forever stamps will still be valid for first-class postage after that. And they can be bought for 41 cents until the new rates take place, postal officials said. The post office has sold 5 billion Forever stamps since they were introduced last April and it plans to have an additional 5 billion in stock to meet the expected demand before the May price change, the agency said. The charge for other services, such as advertising mail, periodicals, packages special services will also change. Changes in the price for Priority Mail and Express Mail will be announced later, the agency said. Postage rates last went up in May 2007, with a first-class stamp jumping 2 cents to the current 41-cent rate. In the past raising postage rates was a long, complex process involving hearings before the independent Postal Regulatory Commission, a process that could take nearly a year.
Board approves service plan for HVAC system
The Forrest City School Board on Monday agreed to enter into a contract with a local company to try and ensure that the new HVAC system at the high school works properly. Following some discussion on the matter, the districts board agreed unanimously to a one-year maintenance contract with Store Services Inc., of Forrest City for a base price of $6,480. The contract requires SSI to perform quarterly maintenance on the system. Board member Ernestine Weaver was absent. The other bidder was Mohr Heating and Air Conditioning of Wynne. Architect Dave Hodges, who works with the school district on the HVAC system, explained to the board that a separate maintenance contract, in his opinion, would benefit the district. Basically, you would hire someone to get really familiar with the system and to check quarterly to make sure everything is working properly, said Hodges.
Kidd now officially a Maverick, Cuban says
As a player, you just want to come to work and play hard and give your team a chance to win, Kidd said during over the weekend. Hopefully you put yourself in position to win a championship. Theres no guarantee. The Mavs resume play Wednesday against the Western Conference-leading Hornets in New Orleans. If Kidd can play it will kick things off with Kidd going up against the Hornets rising point guard, Chris Paul. An indication of just how tough the West is with most teams having 30 or fewer games to play is that the Mavs (35-18) are two games out of the conference lead, but also two games out of the lottery. Kidd said hes looking forward to returning to the West, where the style of play is faster and more wide open than in the laboring East. I love to run, Kidd said.
